ELIZABETH MAY ENDORSES GREEN PARTY LEADER JANET KEEPING IN CALGARY – FOOTHILLS BY-ELECTION
CALGARY – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada, has endorsed Green Party of Alberta Leader and Candidate Janet Keeping in the September 3rd by-election in Calgary-Foothills.
Janet Keeping is the Leader of the Green Party of Alberta
Janet Keeping, Green Leader and Calgary-Foothills candidateMay, elected national Green Party leader in August of 2006, says voters in Calgary-Foothills would benefit by having Green representation in the Legislature. “Janet Keeping is an inspiring woman who works for the public good. She has integrity and understanding and this by-election is an opportunity to have the best representation ever.”
The national Green Party leader says that Green Party breakthroughs elsewhere in Canada mean it’s more likely voters are taking a closer look at Keeping. “Greens have now elected provincial party leaders in three provinces … because we offer hope.”
For her part, Keeping is thrilled with the endorsement. “Elizabeth May embodies the best in Canadian political leadership. She is smart, effective and highly ethical and was my inspiration to get involved in Green politics. I am very proud to have her endorsement in this important by-election.” In addition to her many years working on public legal education – working on issues as diverse as oil and gas regulation, public utility regulation, Aboriginal rights, human rights and civil liberties – Keeping was president of an ethics in leadership foundation before her election as Green Party of Alberta leader in September, 2012.
“There are ten days remaining before the people of Calgary-Foothills decide who will be their next MLA. We have momentum on the ground, are climbing in the polls, and now have a wonderful endorsement from Elizabeth, a greatly respected Canadian. We’re looking forward to the home stretch of the campaign during which we will reach out to even more residents of Calgary-Foothills and listen to their cares and concerns. The Green Party gives people a chance of voting for something – a fairer society, a more diversified economy, a stronger democracy and a sustainable, liveable environment for us and future generations – rather than merely against someone else.”
The by-election in Calgary-Foothills was triggered by former premier Jim Prentice’s election night resignation as MLA for the riding.
