CARNEGIE TO FOCUS ON BUILDING GREEN PARTY OF

ALBERTA’S ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY

EDMONTON – Will Carnegie begins his tenure as Interim Leader of the Green Party of Alberta today and says he will focus on building the party’s infrastructure.

Carnegie, who is also the Green Party’s Candidate of Record in Calgary-East, indicated his intentions are to bolster the membership and resources of the party. “We have the most pertinent and dynamic policies and core values that fully reflect the world we’re living in. We invite more Albertans to participate and position the party for electoral breakthroughs in 2023,” says Carnegie.

“Membership in our party means you are able to play a role in determining the future shape of public policy, elect members to our provincial executive, nominate a candidate in your riding during the next election and, of course, elect a new leader of the Green Party of Alberta in the Spring of 2020,” says Carnegie.

Carnegie knows what it takes to build an organization. He helped grow and enhance the Calgary Forest Lawn Association and believes the Green Party can be a leader in Albertan politics. “Currently, the governing UCP and the opposition NDP have created no plan to remove Alberta from it’s addiction to fossil fuels. We need a party in the legislature that is committed to transitioning away from our reliance on fossil fuels and to bring us into the 21st century clean, green economy. ”

Membership and fundraising are two areas that Carnegie wants to concentrate on during his term as Interim Leader. “It’s my belief and expectation that we can double our membership in the six months prior to electing a new leader. I also want to put renewed energy and focus on implementing a proper fundraising plan that enables us to modernize our party as a means of facilitating its growth and electoral success. We want the new leader, whomever they may be, to be able to hit the ground running,” states Carnegie.

The Green Party of Alberta will hold its Annual General Meeting at Red Deer on November 16, 2019. Members will fill the roles of President, Secretary, and four At-Large positions on the Executive Council. An official date for the party’s leadership convention has not been set as of yet.
