Alberta Greens announce leadership race: Members to vote for new leader in September

The Green Party of Alberta (GPA) will vote for a new leader on September 22.

President of the GPA, Marco Reid, says it’s an exciting time for the party:  “The future of this province is on the line, as any presence of true progressive values in our Legislature is a shadow of what was promised by the NDs last election. It is long overdue for Greens to be elected in Alberta so there are MLAs in the Legislature that do not act on the whims of big business and have the courage to advocate for improved healthcare, economic stability and a more vibrant democracy.”

Itis a pivotaltime in Alberta politics. More and more Albertans understand that the future has to be very different from the past in Alberta, and in fact there is a lot of latent support in the province for core Green values such as sustainability, social justice and respect for diversity.

Anyone interested in exploring a leadership bid should visit the GPA web site for an understanding of GPA values and policies and then get in touch with the party at

The deadline to file an application to become a leadership candidate is July 31.  We look forward to a lively leadership race.
